10 dead in Iraq hostage crisis
October 3rd, 2011 - 6:50 pm ICT by IANSBaghdad, Oct 3 (IANS) Ten people, among them five policemen, were killed Monday when Iraqi security forces stormed a government compound where several people, including a mayor, were held hostage, Xinhua reported.
The incident took place in al-Baghdadi town of Anbar province, about 170 km west of Baghdad. Thirteen people, including the mayor of the town, Mohanad Zbar Mutlag, were taken hostage by gunmen Monday.
“The Iraqi forces finally retook control of the compound, including a police station, after they killed five gunmen and arrested three others,” an official said requesting anonymity. Five policemen were killed in the gun battle.
