10 dead in China colliery gas leak
November 28th, 2009 - 1:34 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Beijing, Nov 28 (IANS) Ten workers died in a coal mine gas leak in China’s Guizhou province, authorities said Saturday.
A body of a worker was recovered in the shaft late Friday, said a spokesman with the Guizhou Provincial Work Safety Bureau.
The accident occurred at 11.23 p.m. Thursday at Zhenxing Coal Mine in Xingren county when 172 workers were working underground, Xinhua news agency quoted the spokesman as saying.
Nine bodies were retrieved soon after the incident.
A total of 162 workers managed to escape.
Zhenxing coal mine, in the resource-rich Xingren county of the Qianxinan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, has an annual output of 600,000 tonnes.
