10 dead as Dominican boat capsizes
February 5th, 2012 - 2:23 pm ICT by IANSSanto Domingo, Feb 5 (IANS) As many as 10 people died when a boat carrying about 60 Dominican migrants capsized off the country’s eastern coast, an official said.
The wooden boat was sailing Saturday towards the US island territory of Puerto Rico when it was overwhelmed by heavy waves, Xinhua quoted a senior fire official in Dominican Republic as saying.
A total of nine people were rescued and 10 bodies found while the others still remained missing, the official added.
The Dominican navy has launched a search and rescue operation.
