New York, Apr 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) WikiLeaks has released a video named as ‘Collateral Murder’ that is about the 2007 attack on the civilians in Baghdad. The video shows that there is an US helicopter which opens fire on a group of civilians, who are milling around on the streets, without any provocation from the Iraqi citizens at all. The attack resulted in 12 causalities, which also included 2 photojournalists and their driver.
Reportedly WikiLeaks was able to get hold of the video with the aid of some military whistleblowers. After viewing the video, and seeing the US military attack the civilians in vain, without any provocation of any sort from their side, they have also launched an investigation into the case. Since the release of the video, there has been a furor over the Internet, over the inhuman ways of the US military. And the icing on the cake is that the US military has also come forward and authenticated the video.
This unfortunate attack took place in July 2007. After the attack, the US military tried to cover up its tracks and also succeeded in doing so for 3 years. In their defense the US military cooked up a story that the journalists were killed, when they were caught in the crossfire between the Army and the militants. However in the video, it is clearly visible that this was not the case.
