Washington, Apr 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 2007 video footage showing U.S. helicopter strike in Baghdad, Iraq has been released by a website that leaks secret government documents in order to fight corruption and bring the truth in front of the public. WikiLeaks released the video which has been titled “Collateral Murder’ that featured an attack in Baghdad in 2007 which resulted in the death of around a dozen individuals and also included two photojournalists of a leading news source.
According to reports, WikiLeaks got access to the video with the help of military whistleblowers and since then had undertaken an investigation in the case. In the video, Apache helicopters are seen attacking a small group of people while also firing at a van that approaches to help the injured, resulting in further deaths. Since the video has been released, it has been successful in generating widespread attention, more so as reports have claimed that U.S. military officials have confirmed that the video is indeed authentic.
In the attack that took place in the month of July, 2007 journalist Namir Noor-Eldeen and his driver Saeed Chmagh lost their lives and in which two children were also known to have been injured. Following the incident, the U.S. military attempted to cover up the incident for a period of three years, according to reports. Meanwhile, the website further adds that the U.S. military claimed that the journalists were killed after they came in the crossfire between the Army and the militants. However, the recent video completely refutes the U.S. military’s stand. The video gives a glimpse of just one gory incident in the war in Iraq spanning over seven years.
