Zuma to invite Sonia to South Africa

Sanya (China), April 14 (IANS) South African President Jacob Zuma will invite India’s ruling Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi for the African National Congress’ centenary celebrations in January 2012.
Zuma told this to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during their bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 3rd summit of the BRICS that also involves Brazil, Russia and China.
“They intend to invite Sonia Gandhi for the centenary celebration of the ANC,” said Manbeer Singh, secretary (economic relations) in the Indian ministry of external affairs.
Manbeer Singh briefed the media on the prime minister’s bilateral meeting with Zuma.
He said Zuma also expressed the desire to invite Indian President Pratibha Patil for a bilateral visit to South Africa next year.
