Zardari left though army doctors said he was fine: report
December 7th, 2011 - 1:11 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Dec 7 (IANS) President Asif Ali Zardari flew out to Dubai over a heart condition despite Pakistan Army doctors declaring him completely fit, said a media report.
The News International said doctors from the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) found Zardari completely fit after a medical check-up.
However, president’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar denied Zardari underwent a medical check at AFIC. He said Zardari had been busy in his official affairs all day long.
Zardari Tuesday evening left for Dubai to visit his children and also to undergo some medical tests, Pakistan’s official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan had reported.
Though the president’s personal physician Col Salman said the proposed medical tests are of routine nature and are linked to a previously diagnosed cardiovascular condition, a US magazine quoted a former US official as saying that parts of the US government were informed that Zardari had a “minor heart attack” Monday night. He had flown to Dubai via an air ambulance.
Zardari may have to undergo an angioplasty procedure Wednesday and may also resign on account of “ill health”, the Foreign Policy reported.
In September, the president had undergone an angiography at a hospital in Britain where doctors gave him a clean bill of health.
Zardari is under intense pressure ever since a memo to Washington became public. The memo claimed that he feared a military coup following the May 2 killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad. Husain Haqqani had to resign as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US over the controversy and he was succeeded by former minister Sherry Rehman.
