Islamabad, Aug 30 (IANS) Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday greeted the people of the country on the occasion of Eid, and urged them to promote affection, tolerance, patience and brotherhood.
The two leaders said these principles were needed to create a society according to the tenets of Islam, Online news agency reported.
In his message, Zardari said Islam asks people to avoid terrorism, sectarianism and prejudices.
“On this blissful juncture, we must remember the segment of the society which is not able to celebrate Eid due to the lack of resources. We must remember the people affected in last year’s devastating floods and this year’s rainfall. We as Muslims should support the oppressed people by all means so that they would be included in the happiness of Eid,” Zardari said in a statement.
Gilani in his message said: “While we are celebrating this festival with traditional fervour, it is our national and Islamic duty that we also include underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of our society in our happiness.”
“Terrorism and extremism have posed serious problems to our state and society. The killing of innocent people is contrary to the spirit of Islamic teachings and the message of Eid-ul-Fitr.”
“The government is determined to apprehend the perpetrators of violence and bring them to justice,” Gilani said.
