Yuvraj wants to establish himself in Tests with England series
July 7th, 2011 - 9:19 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 7 (IANS) India’s flamboyant middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh is looking at the forthcoming England tour to cement his place in the Test side.
Yuvraj, who was man of the series in the World Cup, said he will give his best in the four-match Test series beginning July 21 at Lord’s.
Yuvraj has managed to play 34 Tests since making his debut in 2003 and has been in and out of the side. In contrast, he played 274 ODIs since his debut in 2000.
The stylish left-hand batsman acknowledges his inconsistent run in the longer format and says he is keen to revive his career with a good show in England.
“In terms of one-day cricket everything has been good for me, but in terms of Test cricket I suppose the graph reads a bit up and down. Cricket is my game though and I am going to give this Test series my level best, I will give my 100 per cent,” said Yuvraj, who missed the West Indies tour due to a lung infection.
“England is one of the best teams but we have been maintaining the number-one ranking for two years and we won in England last time, and I am sure if we play to our best potential we can win again.”
The 29-year-old says tough times have made him stronger.
“There were times when things were harsh but these kind of experiences made me stronger as a person. I don’t think if I had not gone through that phase I would have done so well at the World Cup - I think it helped me to understand how important the Indian colours are for me and I now understand how to get better from here.”
