Youth who helped nab killer cop dies

New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) A 24-year-old man who was shot and critically injured while helping police chase a rogue constable who had gunned down a businessman here has succumbed to his injuries, police said Tuesday.

Harinder Singh alias Sunny was shot at and injured in the neck by head constable Ajay Tomar while fleeing after fatally shooting Old Delhi trader Amarjeet Singh Chadda, 60, Saturday night.

Chadda died in no time. Harinder Singh was admitted with a bullet wound in the neck at the St Stephen’s Hospital.

He died around 8.30 p.m. Monday after all his vital organs failed, the hospital said.

Police had Monday announced a reward of Rs.50,000 for his bravery.

Meanwhile, Tomar, posted with the 7th battalion of Delhi Armed Police, has been sacked.

Tomar had waylaid Chadda and asked him to hand over his valuables. When Chadda resisted, the policeman shot him in the stomach and tried to escape on foot.

A head constable on patrol duty ran after Tomar. Harider Singh offered a ride to the policeman on his motorcycle to chase Tomar.

Panicked, Tomar shot Sunny and jumped from a bridge. He fractured his legs and was caught.
