Chandigarh, Nov 4 (IANS) A youth was Friday sent to two days police custody by a local court on charges of kidnapping a teenaged student of a leading girls’ school here.

Inderjit Singh Malik, 21, was accused by police of kidnapping the girl, who belongs to an erstwhile royal family of Himachal Pradesh and studies in a leading convent school, from outside the school in the upscale Sector 9 here last week.

The youth and the girl, who were both missing from the city for the last few days, were Thursday traced by police in Gidderbaha town in Punjab’s Muktsar district.

The statement of the victim was also recorded in the court Friday evening.

The victim claimed that she was kidnapped by the accused with the help of his friends and family members. However, the lawyer of the accused said that the kidnapping theory was concocted.

Inderjit’s parents of Inderjit, Surinder Malik and Paramjit Kaur, are also wanted by police in this case but they are absconding.

Police had earlier arrested a woman, Kamal Singh of Sector 36 here, Nov 1. Police said that she had allegedly helped Inderjit to kidnap the girl.
