Youth dies in police station

Ranchi, July 7 (IANS) A youth allegedly committed suicide in a police station of Giridih district in Jharkhand Monday, said M.L. Meena, Superintendent of Police. Rajesh Roy, who was in his 20s, was held Sunday night in the national highway connecting Giridih and Dhanbad districts. He was taken to the Nimiaghat police station, which is located around 190 km from state capital Ranchi.

Shocked by the charges framed against him, Rajesh hanged himself from the ceiling in a toilet attached to the police station, Meena said.

The police had not recorded the arrest of the youth.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Urging a probe into the incident, local residents have demanded compensation to the family members of the youth.
