Youth conference to find solutions to urban problems
July 23rd, 2011 - 1:12 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 22 (IANS) In an attempt to encourage youngsters to understand issues like unemployment, migration, pollution and the likes, and come up with possible solutions which maybe implemented, a youth conference will be held in Mysore in November this year.
According to a statement by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) which is one of the organisers, the conference will also see a contest in which the participants will get an opportunity to interact with policy makers and experts and the top three teams will selected and awarded.
San-kranti, as the contest is called, however invites only those students who have completed or are pursuing their PhD.
“The teams will come up with their ideas and researches and the shortlisted 20 teams will be mentored by the experts. They will also help the teams further develop their solutions to address the problem in a more comprehensive manner,” the statement said.
“All the 20 teams will be invited to participate in the Indian Urban Conference where they will get the chance to interact with eminent practitioners, policy makers around the world. The top three teams will win a cash prize,” it added.
“San- kranti is a part of a nation-wide youth effort to take ownership of India’s future. It’s a unique opportunity for today’s youth to understand the various issues facing us today,” Aromar Revi, IIHS director, said.
