Yesterday once more for Camino
August 19th, 2011 - 1:43 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Aug 19 (IANS) For Argentine assistant football coach Julian Camino, now on a visit to the city for surveying the preparedness for the Sept2 FIFA international friendly tie between Argentina and Venezuela, it is a journey brimming with nostalgia as he had turned out for East Bengal 23 years ago.
Camino, who also played in the city for the Argentine national side in the 1984 Nehru Cup, seemed overwhelmed.
“I am very happy to be back here,” said Camino, who donned the East Bengal jersey in 1988.
Camino had become a darling of the crowd during the brief period he did duty for East Bengal as a midfielder. His incisive passes, fine interception and anticipation were a treat to watch. However, he returned home due to some payment dispute, language problems as also fitness issues.
Camino made a round of Mohun Bagan ground during the day. “If I get time I will visit East Bengal ground,” he said.
Soon after, East Bengal club authorities invited the Argentine to their club Friday.
Alongside Camino, AFA administrative employee Alberto Oscar Pernas and another representative Rodrigo Martin Bauso comprise the three-member delegation.
