Wrongly parked car claims cop’s life

Chandigarh, June 4 (IANS) A police constable was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital Thursday after his motorcycle collided with a car parked on the wrong side of the road in Chandigarh, police said.
According to the police, constable Harpal Singh, 31, posted in the VIP security wing was returning home Wednesday night after completing his duty when he met with an accident.

“Harpal Singh could not see the car parked on the wrong side here in Sector 29 in the darkness and his motor cycle hit it,” Yashpal Sharma, investigating officer of the case, told IANS.

The constable was taken to a government hospital here from where he was referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where he died Thursday.

Police have registered a case and started investigations.

Sharma said that the car’s owner Vijay Bhardwaj was arrested but was later released on bail.
