Chennai, Dec 31 (IANS) The World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore next year will come out with concrete measures on spreading the Tamil language across the globe, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said Thursday.
Speaking to reporters here after chairing a consultative meeting on the modalities of holding the Tamil conference, he said: “This is not going to be a conference where people will congregate, discuss and disperse. There will be concrete action plans for popularising the language post-conference.”
The World Classical Tamil Conference will be held in Coimbatore June 23-27, 2010.
He urged political parties to set aside their political differences and participate in the language conference.
“We have invited all the political parties. The AIADMK, MDMK and DMDK have expressed their inability to participate in the conference. It is upto them to decide whether to participate or not, given the event’s importance,” he said.
He said President Pratibha Patil has been invited for the conference.
To a query on how the conference would be different and better than the earlier ones, the chief minister said: “I don’t want to degrade the earlier conferences. As a follower of Anna (former chief minister and DMK founder C.N. Annadurai), my focus will be on making the proposed conference similar to the one organised by him (Anna) in 1968.”
He said the conference will result in improving the infrastructure facilities of villages surrounding Coimbatore.
