World media leaders meet in China
September 27th, 2011 - 3:12 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Sep 27 (IANS) World’s leading media organisations met here Tuesday to discuss the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR), rise of “new media” and cooperation between global media groups.
The meeting was attended by the Associated Press, BBC, New York Times, Itar-Tass, Kyodo News, News Corp, Thomson-Reuters, Al Jazeera Network, Google and Time-Warner’s Turner Broadcasting System (TBS).
Topics discussed at the meeting include IPR protection, cooperation in the era of “new media”, journalists’ on-the-job safety and the media’s role in natural disasters.
“The impact of the financial crisis has slowed down the development of the entire media industry,” said Li Congjun, president of Xinhua news agency.
He added that traditional media like newspapers and magazines had been particularly affected.
“Although competing with each other, traditional media and new media are also converging and developing together,” Li added.
