Women’s car rally to focus on breast cancer, tigers
September 23rd, 2011 - 9:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 23 (IANS) More than 50 women will drive down from Delhi to Jaipur Saturday in bid to create awareness about women empowerment, breast cancer and the dwindling tiger numbers in the country.
The annual event, open to females behind the wheel, will be flagged off from Saket in south Delhi and is a Time Speed Distance event that comprises a set of instructions specifying a route, and a speed at which to travel.
“This is the fourth edition of the rally and we have roped in the tiger issue for the first time,” Sunil Dutt of I-Sports, a team of professional rallyists, told IANS here.
According to Dutt, the rally also aims to spread awareness about the Nahagarh Tiger Rescue Centre in Rajasthan which is home to over 40 tigers rescued from circuses.
“People can come forth and help by either donating, or better still, by adopting a tiger. If you do decide to adopt one, just pay a fixed amount every month as per your suitability,” said Dutt.
Meanwhile, participants were gung-ho about the rally. “I had heard a lot from friends about this event, so I decided to participate this year,” said an enthusiastic Anjana Singh, a Delhiite who would be accompanied by her family.
