Women critically injured after immolation attempt
March 20th, 2011 - 8:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 20 (IANS) Depressed over prolonged illness, a 45-year-old woman tried to immolate herself here Sunday morning, police said. Suffering 80 percent burns, she is being treated at a city hospital.
“Rubi Devi, resident of Darshan Vihar in Delhi’s Swarup Nagar, poured kerosene oil and lighted herself in her kitchen Sunday morning,” said a senior police officer.
Her husband Vishwaraj Kumar, an ex-armyman, broke open the door and doused the fire.
She was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital where she is undergoing treatment, the officer said.
According to the officer, Devi was depressed because of a prolonged illness over the last four years.
