Greater Noida, Feb 16 (IANS) A woman throttled her daughter and son, killing the girl, before committing suicide in Greater Noida Tuesday, police said. The son is battling for life in the hospital.
According to Greater Noida Superintendent of Police Surendra Kumar Verma, Sharda Devi, 32, attempted to strangulate her daughter Prachi Singh, 7, and son Piyush, 4, with a rope at her house in Beta-I sector around 11.30 a.m.

Afterwards, Sharda hanged herself from the fan in her room.

When the neighbours knocked on the door, there was no response. Feeling suspicious, they informed the police who reached the spot and broke open the door to find all three lying in the room.

While Sharda and Prachi were dead, Piyush was found to be unconscious. He was taken to Kailash Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

“Sharda’s husband Narendra Singh has told us that he did not know anything about the matter. He said he had no tiff with his wife and their relations were normal. He did not tell anything else about them,” Verma said.

Singh works as a technician with a manufacturing unit in Greater Noida. The family originally belonged to Khushalpur area in Gulaothi.

“Prima facie, it seems that the husband-wife might have some kind of marital discord. His wife’s affair outside marriage also cannot be ruled out at this stage. We are investigating the case,” Verma said.
