Keonjhar (Orissa), March 6 (IANS) A woman succumbed to burn injuries she suffered when her clothes caught fire while praying in a temple in Orissa on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Shivratri, the police said Thursday. Mirarani Pati, 45, resident of the Keonjhar town, 150 km from capital Bhubaneswar, went to the temple to offer prayers when her sari caught fire from an earthen lamp, the police said.

Pati was first admitted to the district government hospital. She had suffered 50 percent burns and died while being taken to a bigger hospital in Cuttack.

Hindus celebrate Shivratri a day or two before the new moon in the month of Phalgun (February-March).
