The woman, identified as Suman, was fired at Monday night near her house by an unidentified person.
“She was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where doctors declared her dead. A bullet had pierced her chest,” said a senior police official.
The reason behind her murder is yet to be ascertained, said the official, adding a case has been registered and police are looking for the attacker.
Suman, who sold bangles for living, was separated from her husband a few years ago. She was living with her paramour. “Reportedly she has illicit relationship with a person that led to her separation with her husband,” said the official.
The official said it seemed the killing might be due to her relationship, but it could only be confirmed after investigations.
