Amritsar, June 8 (IANS) A 32-year-old woman was repeatedly raped by two youth in the empty compartment of a train parked in the wagon yard of the Amritsar railway station, the police said here Sunday. Both youth, one of them a part-time employee of the Indian Railways, were later arrested by the railway police and booked for rape. They have been identified as Ashish Kumar and Dinesh.

Police officials said both youth forcibly took the woman past midnight Saturday to the empty compartment of the Golden Temple Express parked in the yard, where they took turns to rape her. Railway police official Bhupinder Singh confirmed the incident.

The woman, who belongs to Kangra district of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, had arrived at the Amritsar railway station from Pathankot town in north Punjab. She was waiting to catch another train for Beas town near here.

The victim told the police that the youth told her that her train to Beas was parked a little distance away. After reaching near the compartments of that train, they dragged her inside. She claimed that they continued to rape her till she fell unconscious Sunday morning.

“I regained consciousness much later and approached the police,” she said.

The police were able to trace the youth, one of whom worked as a kitchen attendant at the railway station itself. They were identified by the victim.

The woman was sent to a government hospital for medical examination where doctors confirmed that she had been raped.
