Woman poisons self, four kids; three die
July 11th, 2011 - 10:05 pm ICT by IANSFatehpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 11 (IANS) Apparently disturbed over her poor financial condition, a woman in this Uttar Pradesh district Monday gave poison to her four sons before consuming it herself, police said. While three of her children died on the spot, she and one son are battling for life.
Khateeja, 32, gave poison to her sons — Yusuf, Imran, Rizwan and Irshad, all aged between two-to-eight years — before consuming it herself at her house in Chandpur area here.
“It appears that poor financial condition prompted Khateeja to take the extreme step. While Yusuf, Imran and Rizwan died on the spot, Irshad and Khateeja are being treated in a hospital,” Police Inspector Manish Pandey told reporters in Fatehpur, some 140 km from Lucknow.
“Both of them have now been referred to Kanpur as their condition turned extremely serious at a hospital here,” he added.
According to police, Khateeja was married to a labourer. She was not able to look after her children properly as her husband used to ignore the family.
