Woman poisons her children, commits suicide
April 22nd, 2011 - 9:46 pm ICT by IANSBahraich (Uttar Pradesh), April 22 (IANS) Depressed over strained relations with her husband, an Uttar Pradesh woman Friday committed suicide after poisoning her four minor children among whom one died, police said. The other children are in critical condition.
Shakuntala Devi, 41, consumed some poisonous substance and also made her daughter and three sons have the same at her Tulsipur village home, Police Inspector J.L. Sonkar said Friday.
“While Devi and her 10-year-old daughter died at home, the other three children are being treated at a hospital. The condition of all of them is stated to be critical,” Sonkar told reporters in Bahraich, some 140 km from Lucknow.
According to the police official, the woman took the extreme step following a marital dispute.
