Woman kills two sons, self in Uttar Pradesh
August 13th, 2010 - 10:28 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Aug 13 (IANS) A 37-year-old woman committed suicide after poisoning her two sons in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district Friday, police said.
Even as the police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident, they believe Mamta Devi killed her two sons and took the extreme step under depression as she had strained relations with her husband Jeet Bahadur.
“Mamta first made her two sons, aged seven and nine years, consume pesticide and later she herself consumed it following which all the three died,” police inspector Ashish Singh told reporters in Mirzapur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“According to locals, Mamta on several occasions had told them that she would kill her two sons and commit suicide as her husband was not looking after them properly,” he added.
According to police, Mamta had heated arguments late Thursday with her husband, a labourer, who told her to leave his house.
