Snehalata Malik had come to stay with her son Dipak and his wife Dipyanjali in their flat in the satellite township of Newtown in Rajarhat a few days back, but she did not have cordial relations with her daughter-in-law.
Hailing from Rourkela in Orissa, Dipak worked for software firm Cognizant Technology Solutions and married Dipyanjali two years ago after they fell in love with each other.
Snehalata had a heated argument with Dipyanjali Friday morning, following which she stabbed the daughter-in-law repeatedly with a kitchen chopper, a police official said.
Dipyanajali died on the spot. Snehalata then surrendered herself at a police station, the official added.
