Woman killed, two injured as car catches fire
October 18th, 2011 - 12:57 am ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 17 (IANS) A woman was charred to death while two others received serious burns in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district Monday when the car they were travelling in went up in flames following a gas leakage in the vehicle, police said.
Kanti Mishra, 45, was burnt to death and her husband and another person sustained multiple burns when the LPG-powered Maruti 800 car caught fire in Chiluataal locality.
“While Kanti died on the spot, the other two were rushed to a hospital. Their condition is stated to be extremely serious,” a police official said in Gorakhpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“Though the gas leakage from the LPG kit fitted in the car caused the fire, we are yet to ascertain whether the kit was an authorised one or not,” he added.
