New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) A 35-year-old woman has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh for smothering an elderly woman to death and robbing jewellery from her home in northwest Delhi, police said Monday. Laxmi alias Vijay Kumari was arrested Sunday from Sultanpur for killing Harjinder Kaur, 58, at the victim’s home in Sector-4 Rohini here last week. A diamond ring, a pair of diamond tops and a pair of gold earrings, which she robbed from the house, were also recovered from her.

Harjinder Kaur, who was living alone in her house for the past 20 years, was divorced after one year of marriage. She was living on the ground floor, while her sister and other family members occupied the first floor.

“Laxmi, in her interrogation, confessed that she had killed Harjinder Kaur with the help of her two male accomplices with the intention of committing robbery. After the killing, she fled to Sultanpur,” said deputy commissioner of police (outer Delhi) Sagar Preet Hooda.

“During investigation, it was found that on the night of the killing, Laxmi and her associates had come to the victim’s house and were missing after the incident. It was also found that valuables such as jewellery and cash were missing from the house. We are looking for her accomplices,” he said.
