Woman found killed in rural Tamil Nadu

Kumbhakonam (Tamil Nadu), Aug 5 (IANS) A woman in her thirties was found dead Tuesday with her head bashed in at a secluded spot outside the rail terminal here, an eyewitness said. In the past 40 days, the woman is the 16th victim to be killed in a gruesome manner in the state. “Till now one kept hearing of victims of a suspected psychopath in Chennai and its outskirts. Now the fear has visited us in broad daylight,” said R.V. Manickam, an eyewitness told IANS.

“We do not know whether the woman was sexually assaulted. But we know that the murder took place sometime after noon when the rail terminal here has few visitors,” Manickam added.

The police officials sent the body for post-mortem examination and issued a bulletin to locate the victim’s relatives.

The woman is the 16th victim to be killed in a gruesome way during the last 40 days in Tamil Nadu. The other deaths were reported in state capital Chennai and its outskirts, 250 km north of here.

So far, the police have been clueless about the identity of the killer or the motives.

Three victims were reported around Chennai Monday.
