Chandigarh, June 9 (IANS) A woman in Haryana, alleging rape by policemen, committed suicide Monday in the office of a top police official, saying that she was taking the extreme step out of frustration. The woman, a resident of Rohtak, had come to the office of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) V.B. Singh here to lodge a complaint of rape against two police officials.

“A woman came from Rohtak to ADGP V.B. Singh’s office in Panchkula town to file a complaint. She accused one head constable and one constable of raping her in Rohtak in the month of April.” Sandeep Khirawar, superintendent of police (Panchkula), told IANS.

“After hearing her tale of woes, the ADGP assured her of full justice at the earliest. But the woman said she had already consumed some poisonous substance out of frustration.”

“On hearing this, the ADGP immediately called the police staff, who shifted the woman to the nearest civil hospital. But her condition deteriorated and she was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. She died there at 4.30 p.m.,” said the police official.
