Ludhiana, March 24 (IANS) A woman in a village near Punjab’s industrial hub of Ludhiana has alleged that male members of a family whose minor daughter was raped recently by her teenaged son had attempted to rape her in revenge. The Punjab police said they were investigating the woman’s allegation of the attempt to commit “honour rape” on her at her home in Hassanpur village Saturday night.

The woman, a mother of four children, alleged that members of the family of a five-year-old girl, who was raped by her 13-year-old son earlier March, had tried to rape her at her home. She said three drunk men barged into her house and assaulted her.

She alleged the police were not registering a case on her complaint. She has named three assaulters.

The woman said that her complaint was not being registered as no one from her village was ready to testify.

Her family was ostracized by fellow villagers after her son raped the minor girl. He has been remanded at a juvenile home here.

The woman’s husband Jarnail Singh said the assaulters kept shouting that they would rape her to revenge their son’s crime.

Balbir Singh, the area’s police station chief, said the police were investigating her complaint. He maintained that a police team went to probe the matter but no one from the village came forward in her support.
