Wipro ranked second for diversity in employees’ profile
April 20th, 2011 - 8:57 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, April 20 (IANS) With 120,000 employees of 74 nationalities in 54 countries, Indian software major Wipro Technologies has been ranked second for its employee diversity by the US-based Association of Diversity Council, the company said Wednesday.
The Council is a practice group of consulting and training firm Prism International.
“Wipro is the only Indian company to have been ranked second after the US Navy for the diversity in the profile of its 120,000 employees, with 74 nationalities across 54 countries. Diversity is embedded in our DNA,” the company’s human resources vice president Pratik Kumar said here.
As India’s third largest IT bellwether, Wipro strives to attract and retain the best talent from a globally diverse talent pool to serve customers and provide a competitive edge in the global market place, he said in a statement.
“Our initiatives in diversity are spread across the employees’ life cycle, the support system and governance to enhance their life. The initiative is built on four pillars of gender, nationality, people with disabilities and underprivileged,” Kumar said.
The company set up a 14-member diversity council to create a dynamic socio-business network, fostering a sensitive and equal-opportunity environment and enabling every employee to realise their potential.
“The company’s council has been recognised as one of the world’s 25 diversity councils this year for outstanding work,” Kumar noted.
Prism chief executive Linda H. Stokes said: “The company’s focus on creating a dynamic socio-business network led to the first diversity related Twitter-based interactive conference that was open to all employees and outsider.”
