Will SCG’s 100th Test inspire Sachin to score a ton?

Sydney, Dec 30 (IANS) The second cricket Test between India and Australia here next week will be an ideal platform for Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the greatest contemporary batsman, to get his 100th international century at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), which will coincidentally be hosting its 100th Test.
Officials at the SCG hope the occasion and the expectations of the Indian batting legend achieving the milestone in the 100th Test at the historic ground will see a rush for tickets to walk through the baffle gates.
Australia fast bowler Peter Siddle played spoilsport in the Boxing Day Test after dimissing Sachin for 73 and 32 in the both innings where he stood out amongst the Indian batsmen.
SCG Trust chairman Rodney Cavalier sees Sachin’s long wait for the 100th hundred as a case of destiny and says everything is falling in place for the batting maestro to achieve the miletstone at the 100 Test at the ground.
“You really think cosmos, the Almighty and the Hindu gods were going to allow him to score it anywhere but the SCG?” Cavalier was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald Friday.
“These things are pre-ordained long before your birth or (Arthur) Phillip’s journey in 1788.”
Cavalier says it is natural that more people will turn up to watch the game, hoping Sachin reaches the three-figure mark this time around.
“Indisputably it will cause the sale of tickets to rise,” he said. Tendulkar’s 99th century came against South Africa during the 2011 World Cup in March-April.
