Wife, son held for murder of retired government official

Rohtak, April 1 (IANS) Police Friday arrested the wife and son of a retired Haryana irrigation department official for murdering him and trying to stealthily cremate the body.

According to police, Om Prakash Dalal, a retired sub-divisional officer of the irrigation department and resident of Chunni Pura colony here, died under mysterious circumstances at his home Friday.

Police said his family did not inform relatives and straightaway took the body to the cremation ground. However, on getting this information, police reached the cremation ground and extinguished the flames of the funeral pyre with the help of fire tenders.

“We have registered a case of murder against seven relatives of the deceased, including his wife and a son. Police had got the complaint from the deceased’s brothers. All the accused have been arrested,” said Sathish Balan, Rohtak superintendent of police, here Friday evening.

“Our investigation is on and we have sent the half-burnt body to PGIMS (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences) here for the post mortem,” said Balan.

In their written complaint to the police, Mahender Singh and Chand Singh, brothers of the deceased, suspected that their brother could have been murdered by his wife Bimla and son Shiv Kumar over some property dispute.
