When train passengers awaited a ‘runaway lion’
November 7th, 2011 - 10:12 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Nov 7 (IANS) A helicopter was moved and passengers were stopped from leaving a train in Britain following a report that a lion was on the loose.
It all started when a woman called West Yorkshire police, thinking she noticed a lion while driving in the village of Shepley, near the Huddersfield market town, the Daily Express reported.
A dozen officers and a police helicopter were pressed into service for to search for the lion.
Passengers had to remain on board trains at Shepley station during a search that lasted for nearly two hours.
But, in the end, no lion was found.
Inspector Carlton Young of West Yorkshire Police, said: “At the moment we’ve had nothing confirmed and we’ve not located anyone who is claiming to have lost an animal.”
Officers believe the woman was a genuine caller.
