London, Oct 19 (IANS) A truck carrying US President Barack Obama’s see-through teleprompter, which enables him to read out his long and emphatic speeches, went missing during a visit.
It went missing from the Virginia Center Commons Courtyard Marriott sometime Monday morning. The truck was stolen by thieves while parked outside a hotel in Richmond, Virginia, ahead of Wednesday’s presidential visit to Chesterfield, the Daily Mail reported.
The vehicle also contained several podiums with presidential seals as well as portable sound equipment worth $200,000.
Whenever Obama speaks, there is a typical setup which includes a podium adorned by the presidential seal, behind which only the President can stand, the see-thru Teleprompter and the audio system.
The truck, however, was recovered later at around 12.30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express near Richmond International Airport, NBC 12 reported.
It had no markings and there was no indication anything of note was inside.
The US Defence Department confirmed an investigation was underway.
A Defence Information Systems Agency spokesperson said: “No classified or sensitive information was in the vehicle.
“We take incidents such as this very seriously and a formal investigation is continuing with relevant law enforcement agencies.”
President Obama is currently touring Virginia and North Carolina states.
