Wet, humid day in Delhi, more rains ahead (Lead)

New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) It was a wet and humid day in Delhi Monday with the city receiving sporadic showers throughout the day and the skies remaining partly cloudy. According to the weatherman, more rains are expected Tuesday.

“The skies will remain cloudy tomorrow (Tuesday) and there is a possibility of thundershowers in the city,” an official of the India Meteorological department (IMD) said.

“The maximum and minimum temperatures would hover around 35 and 27 degrees Celsius,” he added.

According to the IMD, the national capital Monday received 0.8 mm of rainfall from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The maximum humidity was recorded at 95 percent and the minimum was 72 percent.

“The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 34 degrees, four notches below normal, and 26.4 degrees, two notches below normal respectively,” said an official.

The showers caused waterlogging at 36 locations in the city while 18 complaints of fallen trees were reported. The uprooted trees caused minor traffic jams on some of the major roads in the city during rush hour.

The IMD announced the arrival of monsoon Sunday, three days before the rainy season normally sets in.
