Kolkata, Dec 14 (IANS) The West Bengal government Monday said it has made adequate security arrangements across the state acting on a central intelligence agency’s input that a few Taliban-trained militants have sneaked into the country and might launch attacks on vital installations.
“The state director general of police and the Kolkata Police commissioners have received the intelligence input that a group of Taliban-trained ‘fidayeen’ (suicide squad) attackers has sneaked in the Indian territory and they might carry out strikes in some cities, including in Kolkata.
“We got information that these terrorists have entered India crossing Kashmir border,” state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen told reporters here.
He said no specific information was received about the number of terrorists and their plans for the possible attacks.
A terror alert was sounded in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata Monday following intelligence reports of possible suicide attacks on vital installations in these cities.
Security has also been stepped up at major installations like airports, public places and iconic structures in these cities.
