Taliban Kolkata, Dec 15 (IANS) The West Bengal government Tuesday held a high-level meeting to review the stepped up security arrangements across the state in view of a central intelligence agency’s inputs that Taliban-trained terrorists could target vital installations in the city.
Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty held talks with state Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh and Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Chakraborty Tuesday afternoon.

The state’s Special Task Force (STF) chief Rajiv Kumar has been rushed to New Delhi to collect more information about the intelligence input from the central agency, state home secretary Ardhendu Sen said here.

According to officials, a few Taliban-trained militants have sneaked into the country and might launch attacks on vital installations. A terror alert was sounded in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata Monday following intelligence reports of possible suicide attacks on vital installations in these cities.

Security has also been tightened at major installations like airports, public places and iconic structures in these cities.

“Besides Kolkata, the security arrangements have also been tightened in various district towns like Siliguri, Asansol, Durgapur and Burdwan.

“We still don’t have any specific information that a group of Taliban-trained ‘fidayeen’ (suicide squad) attackers has entered West Bengal. But we have been informed that there is chance that a group of militants might carry out strikes in some Indian cities including Kolkata,” Sen said.
