Welfare schemes not implemented well: NHRC chief
June 16th, 2011 - 8:49 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 16 (IANS) The state of implementation of welfare schemes in India is “not encouraging”, the apex human rights panel chief and former chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan said Thursday said.
“During the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) visits to 16 districts in different states of the country, the experience has been that the status of implementation of the welfare schemes and awareness of the people about their rights is not very encouraging,” Balakrishnan said.
“There is need to develop a sound mechanism to educate people at grass roots level about their rights and various welfare schemes,” he added.
Balakrishnan was addressing the valedictory sessions of the commission’s summer internship programme here.
