We will come out clean: Dikshit (Lead)

April 26th, 2011 - 7:11 pm ICT by IANS

Bharatiya Janata Party New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) A day after facing a stinging opposition attack on her government’s alleged “bungling” in the creation of infrastructure for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday attacked the BJP for “jumping the gun” and said “we will come out clean”.

She also said that the arrest of former CWG organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi was justifiable as there would have been “some basis” to arrest him.

“How can you lap up whatever the opposition says or alleges? Why does it (BJP) not say anything against (former Gujarat minister) Amit Shah and (Karnataka Chief Minister) B.S. Yeddyurappa who are indulged in corruption? Let the enquiry take its own course and we will come out clean,” Dikshit told IANS on the sidelines of a Women’s Car Rally.

Following Kalmadi’s arrest Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said this was just “the tip of the iceberg” and stringent action must be taken against the Delhi government, which was also involved in irregularities in the preparations for the Oct 3-14, 2010 Games.

BJP leader Vijay Goel had said that Dikshit should resign immediately on moral grounds.

The chief minister also said that there are institutions like the judiciary, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate that were examining various issues related to the Games and one should “let them do their work and complete their enquiries”.

When asked about the Delhi government’s response to the Shunglu Committee report that has faulted Dikshit and Lt. Governor Tejinder Khanna for the delay in creating infrastructure for the Games, the chief minister said: “We will respond to the report in 30 days. Mudslinging before the enquiry is not at all good.”
