Bangalore, Oct 8 (IANS) Aware of the importance of starting the series on a winning note, Indian skipper Anil Kumble said his team would settle for nothing but a victory in the first Test against Australia, starting here Thursday.Kumble said he is fully satisfied with the preparation for the important series.

“It is my home ground and we would like to start the series with a win,” Kumble said on the match eve Wednesday.

India lost the first two Tests in the last series in Australia early in the year and though they fought back winning the third in the home’s team den Perth, the initial setback cost them the series.

Going by the statistics, India’s success rate at the M Chinnaswamy stadium is nothing to boast about. They played 17 matches, won four, lost six, while the remaining seven were draws. Australia, on the other hand, will be happy to start the series here as they have not lost a Test at this venue. They have played three Tests and won the last two while one was a draw.

Kumble said the team had a good workout in the last three weeks here and raring to take the field on the morrow.

“We are really satisfied with the way we have gone about it in the last three weeks we have been together. We came together just before the Irani Trophy match and we have been training hard to prepare ourselves for this series. As far as preparation is concerned, I think we have done everything that we could. The pitch seems to be a good surface, so, hopefully, we can play good cricket and get the right result.”

Refusing to disclose the final composition of the team, Kumble would only say that pacer Rudra Pratap Singh and batsman Subramniam Badrinath will not feature in the team.

“The final eleven will be decided Thursday.”

Coach Gary Kirsten, too, was satisfied with team’s preparation.

“The team is in good shape and really looking to taking on Australia.”
