We can be proud of Supreme Court: Swamy after 2G order

New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) Janta Party leader Subramanian Swamy Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court order cancelling 122 licences granted to telecom companies during the tenure of former communications minister A. Raja.
The country was proud of its Supreme Court, Swamy — who had filed the original petition before the apex court — told reporters after the landmark order.
“This is the best judgment which could come… the country can be justifiably proud of the Supreme Court,” Swamy, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, said.
He added that the court had ordered the cancellation of licences of companies that were “totally unfit”.
“…I assume that means Swan and Unitech,” he said.
“The court has said the government must now get the market value of these licences and the profit from the same should be set aside for legal aide and for ex-defence personnel,” Swamy said.
On the case against Home Minister P. Chidambaram, the apex court left the matter to the trial court.
“As far as the issue of Mr. Chidambaram is concerned, the court said the trial court can decide on it without refering to our comments in this matter,” Swamy said.
Swamy has filed another petition, seeking a probe into the role of Chidambaram, who was finance minister at the time of 2G spectrum allocation.
“This is a collective failure of government of India… these licences which were given in such a bad manner… nobody felt cabinet should be summoned and had the whole matter cancelled,” he added.
