Aligarh, Aug 1 (IANS) Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor P.K. Abdul Aziz Sunday said that the varsity’s court has cleared the way for establishing its centres in other states.
The university plans to establish one centre each at Malappuram in Kerala and Murshidabad in West Bengal.
Addressing a media conference, Aziz said the university court in its special meeting held Saturday overwhelmingly supported the initiative of establishing AMU centres.
Aziz said that once President Pratibha Patil, as the visitor of the university, has approved the centres, there cannot be any legal hurdles in establishing them.
He said the admission policy of these centres, once they start, will be the same as the main university.
The varsity will conduct admission test for MBA and LLB at Aligarh, Calicut and Kolkata, he said.
Replying to a question, Aziz said that the university has suspended four students in 2009-10.
The university suspended a large number of students in 2007-08 in view of the murder of three students and torching of the vice chancellor’s lodge.
Referring to the allegation that democratic rights of AMU students were being undermined, the vice chancellor said that the students’ union will be revived when the time is ripe.
