Chennai, June 8 (IANS) Chennai Spikers literally pulled a rabbit out of the hat as they defeated Yanam Tigers 25-23, 25-19, 25-19, which enabled them edge out Maratha Warriors on a better set quotient and win the title in the second-leg of the Indian Volleyball League, here on Wednesday.

The Spikers and Warriors, who blotted their book with a defeat to Hyderabad Chargers in three sets, tied on points (16 apiece), but the hosts emerged winners with a set quotient of 1.084 to the Warriors’ 1.033.

The Spikers, runners-up to the Warriors in the first-leg at Bangalore last month and who had lost their opening two matches here, rallied quite brilliantly to win their remaining three games to bag the honours.

On the final day of the IVL, it was Hyderabad who spoilt the Warriors’ party with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-17, and the Spikers needed no second invitation as they romped past the Tigers to improve their set quotient.

The Spikers owe their victory to Kapil Dev, who played a crucial role unmindful of his indisposition while Rajesh and skipper Nadarajan contributed in equal measure in the home team’s all-round performance.

In the other match of the day, Kerala Killers blew a two-set lead and allowed the Karnataka Bulls to post a 16-25, 13-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-11 win.
