New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) The voice vote on Anna Hazare’s demands on the Lokpal bill will be held at 8 p.m., government sources said Saturday.
The voice vote will reflect a unanimous sense of the two houses.
t was decided to have a voice vote at the end of the debate in both houses after Team Anna members reacted sharply to news that there would be no resolution adopted by parliament Saturday, the source said.
The three demands of Team Anna are: to include the lower bureaucracy in the ambit of the Lokpal, set up Lokayuktas in states, and have Citizen’s Charter in government offices for greater accountability.
The voting will be conducted in the two houses around 8 p.m. after the debate is over. The adopted resolution will then be sent to Anna Hazare in the Ramlila ground.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who earlier made a suo moto statement in both houses after which the discussions were initiated, will read out the resolution in each house before the voice vote takes place.
The government will have to give in writing to Speaker Meira Kumar to conduct the voting on the debate in the Lok Sabha, the source said.
The decision to have a voice vote on the resolution was taken after Mukherjee met senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, who also agreed.
Both opposition and the ruling parties have more or less agreed on unanimously supporting Hazare’s demands on the floor of the two houses.
Anna Hazare is expected to break his 12-day-old fast after the resolution is adopted.
