Villas-Boas insists he won’t be fired by Abramovich

London, Nov 21 (IANS) Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas reacted angrily after his team’s 1-2 loss to Liverpool Sunday night at Stamford Bridge and insisted that he wouldn’t be fired by club owner Roman Abramovich.

A brilliant late goal by Glen Johnson, against his former club, gave Chelsea their third defeat in four Premier League games. Chelsea are now 12 points behind Manchester City and Villas-Boas conceded it was a ‘bad blow’.

“It is not a question of the owner having patience. We have set out to build something new. The owner didn’t pay 15 million euros to get me here form Porto only to pay another fortune to get me out. Our commitment is towards the club and what we are doing in the future. We have enough talent to compete in all competitions, and that’s the perspective we take at the moment,” Vollas-Boas was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.

“The situation in the Premier League is not good for us. It’s not impossible to turn it around but it’s not the brightest of starts for Chelsea in the Premier League in the last 10 years. With the dimension of our club, you cannot forget that your fans expect you to win titles. Our responsibility is to win trophies. We’re in four still, and we still have the possibility to win them,” he said.

“The number of goals we are conceding is something that worries me but we trust our defensive organisation. We believe in their talent to solve these situations,” he added.

Villas-Boas also hit back at former Manchester United captain Gary Neville, who is now an analyst for Sky Sports. Neville said Chelsea’s Brazilian defender David Luiz seemed like he was being controlled by a 10-year-old playing on his PlayStation.

Villas Boas said: “It’s a stupid approach to an opinion but if that’s the way he wants to take the game, that’s ridiculous.”
