Madrid, Sep 21 (IANS) Villarreal returned to winning ways against Mallorca in the Spanish Premier League football here Tuesday.

Giuseppe Rossi’s goal after seven minutes and Nilmar’s early shot in the second half put Villarreal on their way to a 2-0 win.

It was Villarreal’s first triumph of the season, while Mallorca have lost their last three games.

There were two other games played Tuesday night with Osasuna recovering from their 0-8 defeat away to Barcelona Saturday by holding Sevilla to a 0-0 draw in Pamplona.

Osasuna showed they had not suffered any long-term defects at the weekend and could have won had the referee given them what looked like a clear penalty for a second half handball by Sevilla substitute Deigo Perotti.

Real Sociedad took their second win of the campaign with a 1-0 win against Granada. Defender Dani Estrada scored a 63rd minute header to give the Basque side all three points.

Wednesday will have five matches to be unveiled, including Barcelona’s visit to league leaders Valencia and Real Madrid playing away to Racing Santander.

There are two more matches to be played Thursday, including Betis facing Zaragoza, a game that could possibly take the home side to top of the table.
