Village headman shot dead in Kashmir
February 9th, 2012 - 11:51 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Feb 9 (IANS) Separatist guerrillas shot and killed a sarpanch (village headman) in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district Thursday evening, police said.
“Gulzar Ahmad Dar, 60, sarpanch of village Hawoora (Mishipora), was shot at from close range by militants after he came out of the local mosque after offering the evening prayers today (Thursday),” a senior police officer told IANS here.
“Dar succumbed to critical injuries before he could be shifted to hospital. Another local, identified as Abdul Qayoom, was injured in the incident. He was shifted to hospital where doctors said he was stable”.
